Error Beep Codes
Table 5–5 shows error beep codes you may encounter while using the Digital AlphaStation
255 system. For example, if the SROM (serial read only memory) code could not find any
good memory, you would hear a 1-3-3 beep code (one beep, a pause, a burst of three
beeps, a pause, and another burst of three beeps).
Table 5–5: Error Beep Codes
Beep Code
Meaning
1-1-4
(1) The SROM code could not read the DROM (diagnostic read
only memory) or flashROM headers, or (2) there was a checksum
failure.
1-2-1
(1) The DROM code detected a realtime clock failure, or (2) the
realtime clock interrupt did not occur.
1-2-4
The SROM code detected a memory-test failure.
1-3-3
The SROM code could not find at least 2 MB of good memory.
3-2-1
The DROM code was unable to read the header of the flashROM,
or the flashROM checksum failed. Therefore, the DROM code
attempted to boot from the floppy diskette. The attempt failed
because there was no boot block on the floppy diskette.
3-2-3
The DROM code was directed to load the floppy diskette, but there
was no boot block on the floppy diskette.
3-2-4
The DROM code detected a failure with the keyboard or mouse
controller.
3-3-1
The DROM code detected a hard failure.
Diagnostic LED
Your system contains one diagnostic LED indicator on the rear of the motherboard. When
you turn on the system, the LED illuminates; if the startup is successful, the LED goes off.
If the LED on your system, stays lighted, contact your Digital service representative.
