Installing the Router
The installation of an A6604 or A6608 configured with an RPE-X1 is similar to that configured
with an RSE-X1. In this chapter, the A6608 configured with an RPE-X1 is used in the examples.
Preparations
Preparing Tools
Phillips screwdrivers: P1-100mm, P2-150mm, P3-250mm
Flat-blade screwdrivers: P4-75mm
ESD-preventive wrist straps, ESD-preventive gloves
Antistatic bags, antistatic pads
Except an ESD-preventive wrist strap, none of the above installation tools is shipped with the
device.
Precautions
1)
You have read through Chapter 3 “Preparing for Installation" and all the requirements
mentioned in Chapter 3 are satisfied.
2)
Maintain the router hardware under the guidance of the local dealer or technical support
engineers appointed by HP.
3)
To avoid injuries, ensure that all power sources to the router are disconnected before
maintaining any hardware modules of the router.
4)
Always wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap or ESD-preventive gloves when maintaining the
router hardware. For more information, refer to “Electrostatic Discharge Prevention” in Chapter
3 “Preparing for Installation”.
5)
When operating a demountable module, such as an RPE-X1, a chassis accessory, a FIP, a
memory module, a CF card, a HIM, and a MIM, note that:
Ensure good alignment with the slot and use proper force to avoid damage to the module
during installation or removal.
Avoid touching any components on the PCB during observation or moving.
Put the removed module on an antistatic workbench with the PCB side facing upward or place
them in antistatic bags.
6)
Run the corresponding commands before hot-swapping the following boards:
Use the
remove slot
slot-number
command before hot-swapping a FIP. If you have run this
command but do not want to remove the FIP, use the
undo remove slot
slot-number
command
to cancel the operation.
Use the
remove slot
slot-number
subslot
subslot-number
command before hot-swapping a
HIM/MIM. If you have run this command but do not want to remove the HIM/MIM, use the
undo
remove slot
slot-number
subslot
subslot-number
command to cancel the operation.
The configurations (if any) made on a HIM/MIM before you remove the FIP will not be
automatically restored upon reinsertion after you restart the FIP. To keep the configurations,
make sure that the HIM/MIM is in position before you restart or reinsert the FIP.
