How Can I Generate a Clock Signal
With an E4841A Module?

The HP E4841A Data Generator/Analyzer module must be equipped with

one of the generator frontends:

•

HP E4838A, 660 MHz, differential output, low voltage amplitude/offset

and variable slopes generator,

•

HP E4842A, 330 Mbit/s, NRZ/RZ, single ended, variable transitions, 3.5 V

amplitude,

•

HP E4843A, 660 MHz, NRZ/RZ, differential output frontend,

•

HP E4846A, 200 Mbit/s, dual output single-ended frontend.

The most comfortable way to apply a clock signal to the DUT is:

Use the Connection Editor and create a

pulse port

Connect the pulse terminal to the generator connector you wish to use.

Use the Parameter Editor to adjust the channel properties, such as

frequency, pulse width, delay, voltage levels, load resistors, and so on.

Keep the default RZ (Return to Zero) data format. Switch the generator

output on.

On the other hand you can also apply a clock signal to one or several

terminals of a

data port

. In this case, the clock frequency is identical with

the port frequency and applies to all terminals.

Create the sequence and insert the segments.
