
Data Bits
Data bits are the number of bits sent and received per character that
represent the binary code of that character. Characters consist of either 7
or 8 bits, depending on the application. The HP
supports 8 bit
only.
8 Bit
Mode.
Information is usually stored in bytes (8 bits at a time). With
mode, you can send and receive data just as it is stored, without the
need to convert the data.

The controller and the HP
must be in the same bit mode to
properly communicate over the RS-232C. This means that the controller
must have the capability to send and receive 8 bit data.

Each RS-232C interface card has its own interface select code. This code
