W8710A EQUIPMENT MONITORING SYSTEM

18.

The circuit board red LED alarm light shines steadily. If it

blinks on and off:

a. The W8710A computer and Handheld Programmer

are communicating with each other (when keys are

pressed or data sent back and forth).

b. It has detected a fault condition.

19.

Start the HVAC system in the appropriate mode (cool or

heat). Press the D/T key (upper right key on the Hand-

held Programmer) to view the temperature difference

between the return and supply air as it rises in heat or

falls in cool.

NOTE: If gas heat and HEAT D/T rises above 80°F (27°C),

either increase the blower one speed higher or

increase the CALC D/T using the Quick Heat Cali-

bration by pressing the 6 key, then the no.4 key and

then the Up key until the desired D/T is reached.

20.

Connect a phone line from the RJ11 phone jack on the

W8710A circuit board to any convenient phone jack.

IMPORTANT

The next step must be performed to allow the

W8710A to dial out to the central station.

21.

Manually send your first alert report to be sure the

W8710A is transmitting correctly (verify that the modem

and phone line are working) and to register the W8710A

with the Honeywell Central Station. To do this:

a. Make sure the house telephone is not in use.

b. Press the CLEAR button (a small yellow pushbutton

above the power slide switch and white header strip

on the circuit board) for about ten seconds until the

red LED blinks once, shines for five seconds and

then goes out.

c. Listen carefully to hear the modem clicking and

starting to dial out.

d. After one to two minutes:

(1) If the light comes back on, shining steadily, the

report was sent successfully and your office

should receive a manually Initiated fax report in

approximately three minutes.

(2) If the light comes back on, blinking, the W8710A

did not connect to the central station (busy exter-

nal phone line).Try to send the report again by

pressing the Clear button (indicator light quits

blinking when pressed).

(3) If the light blinks once, but does not go out, the

house telephone is in use or the contractor code

no. is 0, or the telephone line is faulty. To correct

the problem, see the Troubleshooting section.

22.

Unplug the handheld programmer and fasten the cover

on the W8710A.

Programming Your Telephone Prefix Number

Occasionally a phone system requires a prefix number dialed

to access an outside line. One- or two- digit prefix numbers

can be stored in the W8710A:

1.

Plug the handheld programmer into the W8710A.

2.

Press 9.

3.

Press 1 to change the phone prefix.

4.

Press Yes or No to change phone prefix (NN means no

prefix numbers are required).

5.

Press 1 or 2 to select the number of digits in the prefix

number. Press 3 if no prefix number (for example, if

your prefix no. is 9, press 1).

6.

Enter the first digit of the prefix number and press Enter.

7.

If you pressed 2 (digits) in step 3, you will be asked to

enter the second digit of the prefix number and then

press Enter.

8.

Press Yes to accept the phone prefix number (the

example shows number 9 was entered as the prefix

number. The N after 9 indicates no 2nd digit number.)

Entering Custom Setup

The setup values entered at the factory usually do not need

customizing. If necessary, adjust values as follows:

1.

Press Set Up.

2.

The first screen displays the Heat D/T tolerance.

(The example shows the standard factory setting for gas heat.

If another type of heat is programmed, the standard tolerance

is El/- 12° or Heat Pump +/- 10°.) To change the

tolerance, press UP or DN. When the desired tolerance

setting is reached, press Enter.

NOTE: Tolerance is the number of degrees the operating

temperature split (D/T) can vary (+/-) from the cali-

brated D/T before sending an alert report.

3.

The next screen displays the Cool D/T tolerance.

All standard factory settings for the Cool tolerance are

+/-6° for all types of heating systems. To change the toler-

ance setting, press UP or DN. When the desired tolerance

is reached, press Enter.
