Problem
Cause
Solution
Light and Power Problem
LED light dims or does not light when
power is applied.
Short in cable.
No 24V power from the transformer.
Check all cables with a tester or disconnect
to determine if LED comes on. If so, replace
the cable(s).
Check R and C on W8710A terminal strip
for 24V power.
Telephone and Fax Problem
No fax report after manually initiating a
call.
Customer is using the phone line (LED blinks
once and stays on).
Faulty telephone connection/no dial tone
(LED blinks once and stays on).
Outside (not customer) telephone line is
busy. (LED blinks once, goes out, and in 1 to
2 minutes, comes back on blinking.)
Incorrect Contractor and/or Access ID
number.
Telephone line requires a prefix no. to
access an outside line.
Your fax machine is not receiving the report.
Low phone-line voltage.
Incorrect Contractor and/or Access ID nos.
Make sure line is not in use; press the Clear
button and try to send again.
Unplug telephone line from W8710A and
test for dial tone with a portable telephone.
Check telephone line for bad connections
or cable.
Reattempt to manually initiate call by
pressing the Clear button.
Press ID key and re-enter numbers, if
incorrect.
Press the TEL/9 key and enter the required
prefix numbers.
Check with the office to confirm it is working
correctly. If OK, confirm that the Honeywell
Central Station has the correct fax number.
Check for presence of at least 30 volts on
the incoming phone circuit. If not, press the
TEL/9 key and then the 2 key to remove
phone-tone checking.
Press ID key and check for correct ID
numbers. Re-enter if incorrect. (If
contractor number is 0, the W8710A will not
dial out.)
Sensor Problems
R/A key displays: Return Air = 32.
S/A key displays: Supply Air = 32.
The sensor cable is open or disconnected.
Be sure the cable is seated in the air sensor
jack and circuit board jack.
Check the sensor cable with the tester and
replace, if needed.
R/A key displays: Return Air = 212.
S/A key displays: Supply Air = 212.
The sensor cable is shorted.
Check sensor cable with tester and replace,
if needed.
R/A or S/A keys display correct
temperature, but do not change when
system is on.
The sensor is in a duct “dead zone.”
Reposition sensor. Make sure the S/A
sensor is 18 in. from the coil.
