Wheels
Refer to
Safety Precautions
on page 19.
Maintenance of spoke tension and wheel trueness
(roundness) is critical to safe motorcycle
operation. During the first 100 miles (150 km),
spokes will loosen more rapidly due to the initial
seating of the parts. Excessively loose spokes
may result in instability at high speeds and the
possible loss of control. It’s also important that
the rim locks are secure to prevent tire slippage.
It is not necessary to remove the wheels to
perform the recommended service in the
Maintenance Schedule. However, information
for wheel removal is provided for emergency
situations.

2. Tighten any loose spoke nipples (3) and rim
lock nuts (4) to the specified torque:
Front spoke nipple
:
2.7 lbf·ft (3.68 N·m, 0.4 kgf·m)
Rear spoke nipple:
2.7 lbf·ft (3.7 N·m, 0.4 kgf·m)
Rim lock nuts
: 9 lbf·ft (12 N·m, 1.2 kgf·m)
3. Check wheel rim runout. If runout is
noticeable, see the Honda Service Manual for
inspection instructions.
