Hang Time
In CW mode, the transmitter is automatically keyed when you close the contact on a straight
key or paddle. When you release the key or paddle, the radio does NOT immediately return to
receive mode. There is a Hang Time.
The Hang Time is a function of the CW Speed setting, even if you are using a straight key. The
lower limit of the hang time is 15WPM.
The Hang Time is 2 word gap times or 10 dit times at the CW Speed setting. For example: at
15WPM, 1 dit time is 80ms. The Hang Time is 10 x 80ms = 0.80 seconds.
To control the hang time, simply adjust the CW Speed. This works great with a straight key. If
you are using a paddle, your hang time is determined by the speed at which you desire to op-
erate
– the CW Speed setting.
