3. Take an offset measurement

move the stage so that the light does not pass through the sample but goes

straight through to the detector.

Click the

button in the lower-left portion of the main window. This

acquires current data for no sample (air) that will be used to offset the
birefringence measurements.

Alternatively, offsets can be set up to happen automatically. See page 38 for

more information.
