be reduced using shielding methods as described

The
fi
replace should be inspected before installing a wood burning
fi
replace insert to con
fi
rm that the
fi
replace is structurally sound and
clearances to combus ble construc on meet all code requirements.
Using a cer
fi
ed professional installer who has the specialized knowl-
edge and equipment needed for proper installa on is recommended.
• Have the
fi
replace
fl
ue cleaned before installa on as needed.
• Clean the
fi
replace of all ashes and debris before installa on.
• Clean creosote deposits from the
fi
replace chamber. Le -over cre-
osote deposits may produce an odor in the home.
• The
fi
replace damper plate must be removed or
fi
xed open.
○
Do not modify or damage the damper assembly to facilitate con-
nector installa on. Ovalized connector pipe is available to
fi
t
through the damper opening and stainless steel damper adapter
kits are available to seal the damper opening.
○
Save the damper plate and all parts. If the insert is removed in
the future, the
fi
replace can be returned to working order.
• Use only liner materials listed to appropriate UL standards and
carefully follow all instruc ons provided by the manufacturer.
F
C
The recommended installa on method is to connect the
fi
replace in-
sert to a chimney liner from the insert
fl
ue to the top of the chimney.
This method ensures a warmer
fl
ue and con
fi
nes all by-products of
combus on within the
fl
ue liner, simplifying maintenance.
• The liner may be
fl
exible liner or rigid stainless steel pipe.
• The liner should be insulated for be er performance and safety.
• A full liner system should be blocked o
ff
at or below the damper
and sealed against the weather at the top.
D
C
The minimum installa on requires connec on from the insert
fl
ue,
through the damper and smoke chamber, and well into the
fi
rst chim-
ney le liner. Cleaning is more di
ffi
cult with this type of system.
• The damper opening must be sealed.
• An air- ght cleanout must be provided into the smoke chamber.
Use extreme care when moving the
fi
replace insert into posi on. It is
very heavy and can cause personal injury or property damage.
• Center the insert in the
fi
replace opening.
• The insert depth can be adjusted @ 3" to align the
fl
ue.
• If the
fi
replace is not level, or the
fi
replace
fl
oor is below the hearth,
leveling bolts (3/8"-16) of the appropriate length (not provided)
can be used to level the insert.
• Make good mechanical connec on of the liner to the insert and
maintain at least minimum clearances to combus ble materials.
