Operator Manual

 ORBISPHERE

 

Communication

The software allows for communication with other control and management systems
such as SCADA and LIMS, etc. OPC is used as the inter-process communication
solution. The communication option is used to define the necessary parameters.

If using the OPC inter-process communication solution, you must have the appropriate
communications software installed on your PC (see 

“PC Software Installation” on

page 21

 for additional information). 

For the DDE solution you can use the excel file for DDE simulation, which is found on

• Inter process communication - Turn this on by selecting 

DDE-OPC

 or turn off by 

selecting 

OFF

. If turned off, none of the other parameters can be set.

• Process messages - Select 

Transmitted

 to exchange process messages 

between OrbiPack and the client application.

• Calibration information - Select 

Transmitted

 to send calibration information from 

OrbiPack to the client application.

• Package actions - Tick the appropriate checkbox if you require the client control 

system to be allowed to change the selection of the package number or to modify 
the selected package.

• Messages - Set to 

REDIRECTED

 to redirect all popup messages to the selected 

communications tool. No acknowledgement will be required from the control 
software for warning or error messages, but OrbiPack will keep any erroneous 
measurements. For application login messages, the client control system must 
supply the username and password. Setting this parameter to 

ORBIPACK

 means 

that the OrbiPack software retains control of all messages.

• Field delimiter character - Select the field delimiter character required by the client 

application from the drop-down list.

• Measurement fields - Check the measurement data required to be sent to the 

client application from the elements displayed.

• With units - Select 

Transmitted

 to send the measurement units.

• With limits status - Select 

Transmitted

 to send the measurement limits data.
