GPS1195 Auto Gate Manual Version 3
11)
Use a four inch base for the loop. Once the base has been laid, secure in place using a wooden
stake wedged into each corner of the loop. Height of the wooden stakes above four inch base
not to exceed top inch thickness of top coat.
12)
Use ½” PVC conduit for the loop leads. Seal all conduit connections. Please not that the PVC
conduit for the loop leads is not supplied with the PVC loop.
Saw Cut Loop Installation Guide
1)
Saw cut a 5/16” wide, 1 ½” deep in rectangular shape to specified dimensions plus slot for the
loop lead conduit.
2)
Ensure there are no sharp corners. Clear slot of all loose material. Slot must be completely dry
and clean.
3)
Corners of the loop should be cut at a 45 degree angle to eliminate sharp edges.
4)
Loop wire should be 16 AWG stranded wire with insulation rated for direct burial. Polyvinyl
chloride insulation should not be used. Cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) or Teflon are
recommended. No splices are to be made in the wire slots.
5)
Ensure the wires are not loose in the slot, as this will cause future loop failure. Do not use sharp
tools or objects to push wires in the slot.
6)
Use a sealant that matches the application and type of pavement. Hard setting epoxies should
not be used with asphalt. Some hot sealants may damage the loop wire insulation.
7)
Where the loop wires leave the lead in slot, they should be twisted three turns per foot. Limit
loop leads to 100ft.
8)
After the insulation is complete, the loop should be checked with a megger to insure the
integrity of the insulation. The resistance should be greater than ten megohms at 500 volts
between the loop and the earth ground.
Important Notes:
Additional conduits and / or wiring may be required in the actual installation.
Loop size and placement are shown when using a gate with a 10ft gate arm and standard
passenger vehicles.
For wider lanes loop width must be increased to cover 80% of the width of the lane.
