Issue 15

Setting Option Jumpers

The Dual V.34 card has one jumper for each of its two modems, used to select between switched 
network mode (factory default), and private line mode. Jumper

 X3 

makes the selection for Modem 

A; Jumper

 X4 

makes the selection for Modem B. 

•

Setting

 X3 

(Modem A) or

 X4 

(Modem B) to the PL position configures the modem 

to communicate on a private (leased) telephone line.

•

Setting

 X3 

(Modem A) or

 X4 

(Modem B) to the SN position configures the modem 

to communicate on a switched network telephone line.

•

The Default position for

 X3 

and

 X4 

is for switched network communication.

When the modem is installed in the SC 5000 high density shelf, positioning the jumpers for SN or 
PL operation depends on the type of backplane in use:

•

SC 5000 shelf with modular backplane

•

SC 5000 shelf with universal mass termination backplane

•

SC 5000 shelf with non-universal mass termination backplane

Figure 2-1

 shows the location of the X3 and X4 jumpers locations and defines how to set the 

jumpers for each modem depending on the type of shelf backplane in use.
