5  Care and Maintenance 

 

 

This chapter contains some general tips on the care and maintenance of your 
UltraScan camera. It also contains a list of questions that are often asked by 
users. 

5.1  General Precautions 

 

The following are some general precautions users should adhere to in the care 
and maintenance of their camera. 

5.1.1  Peltier cooler maintenance 

 

•

 

In standard operation conditions the temperature display is set to a 
temperature of  -25ºC. The temperature should never exceed 50ºC. A 
LED above the reset switch is illuminated when an over-temperature 
condition is detected. 

The first light controller monitors the temperature of the Peltier heat sink. If the 
temperature exceeds 50ºC an automatic protection will shut down the cooler. 
Cooling can be restarted by pressing the reset button on the First Light 
controller or by powering the controller off and on.   The temperature of the 
Peltier heat sink can be checked by pressing the “Heatsink” switch.

The Peltier cooler should not be switched on if the cooling water is not 
flowing. 

The Peltier cooler consumes about 20 W of power. If this heat is not removed 
by the cooling water,  an over-temperature condition will be detected and the 
automatic protection will shut down the cooler.  

•

 

Check the flow of cooling water periodically.
