DESCALING
Depending on the water hardness of your tap water, you should descale the coffee
maker regularly (at least monthly). We recommend the Gastroback Premium Des-
caler. Alternatively, you may use a solution of 300 ml white vinegar and 1200 ml
clear tap water. For further information feel free to contact the Gastroback customer

CAUTION
– Do not use any unsuited descaling agent, because this could
damage the appliance. Only use a descaling solution, suitable for coffee makers.
1. Clean the coffee machine according to the instructions above.
2. Prepare 1.5 litres descaling solution according to the instructions given by the
vendor. Fill the descaling solution into the water tank and leave it within the
water tank for various hours (over night).

Without filter and coffee powder
prepare the appliance for operation (see:
‘Preparing the Appliance for Operation’). Ensure good ventilation.
4. Touch the on/off button to switch on the appliance (all buttons on the control
panel are illuminated). Touch the grinder button for de-activating the grinder.
Ensure that the grinder button is shown red
.
5. Touch the on/off button to start operation. Wait until the water tank is completely
empty and the acoustic signal sounds. Touch the on/off button to cancel operation.
WARNING
– The descaler solution in the glass carafe is very hot.
Do not
breath in the vapours of any type of descaler
to avoid severe injuries to your
respiratory tracts. Ensure good ventilation when pouring the descaler solution. Avo-
id spilling the descaler solution to avoid scalds and damage.
6. Discard the descaler solution.
7. Fill the water tank up to the filling level 12 and re-place the glass carafe on the
heating plate. De-activate the grinder (grinding button illuminates red). Start ano-
ther brewing cycle and wait until the water tank is empty again and the signal
sounds. Cancel operation and discard the water in the glass carafe.
8. Repeat step 7 twice.
9. Rinse the glass carafe, carafe lid and filter basket thoroughly under running tap
water. Thereafter, the appliance is ready for brewing coffee again.

– Always store the appliance and all its parts and accessories

IMPORTANT -
Do not use any parts or accessories of the appliance for any other
purpose than operating the appliance. It is good advice to store the parts and
accessories of the appliance with the appliance.
1. Unplug the appliance.
2. Clean the appliance and all parts and accessories (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’).
3. Completely empty the water tank, bean hopper and grinder (see: ‘Emptying the
Bean Hopper and Grinder’).
4. When all parts are completely dry, insert the filter basket, re-usable filter, and
splash shield into the filter holder. Engage the filter holder under the brewing
head. This way the parts of the filter system are protected against dust, damage,
and loss. Cover the bean hopper via the hopper lid.
5. Remove the glass carafe.
CAUTION
– Do not grasp the appliance at the brewing head, filter holder,
water tank, or power cord for moving. Always remove the glass carafe before
moving the appliance. Otherwise, the glass carafe could fall down.
6. Grasp the appliance at both sides of the housing and place the appliance in
upright position on a stable, clean and dry surface, where the appliance is pro-
tected against inadmissible strain (e.g. moisture, electric or mechanic shock,
frost, direct sunlight) and
out of reach of young children
.
IMPORTANT -
Do not place any hard or heavy objects on or in the appliance or
any part of it. The power cord may not be knotted, squeezed or bent. Do not pull
or strain the power cord.
7. Place the glass carafe on the heating plate and lay the power cord loosely
around the appliance.
