6.5.15.2 FRONT AND REAR SUCTION FAN UNITS
The main feature consists of drawing air in at the front
and blowing it out at the rear. This feature assures greater
penetration into the foliage.
There are two front suction fan units:
• • Axial distributor:
used for treatment similar to
conventional step-up fan units, with circular crow air
flow (AVANT model) (Fig. 108).
• • Tangential Distributor:
for use in small and
medium-sized espalier rows. There are pulley driven
or step-up gear versions, height-adjusted nozzles may
be fitted to achieve adjustable leaf surface spraying
(model TGZ AVANT) (Fig. 109).
•
There are also various fan units with rear suction (models
PULEGGIA, POST/RM, JET).
The feature of these fans draws air in at the back and
blows it out obliquely at the front.
6.5.15.2.1 DOUBLE SCREW FAN UNIT
The atomiser may be equipped with a double screw fan
unit such as the one shown in Figure B. The operating
principle is similar to the frontal suction fan unit, with the
only difference of a more concentrated treatment with
greater depth (it reaches taller plants).
6.5.15.3 CANNON FAN UNIT
The cannon fan unit is fitted with step-up gear similar to nor
-
mal axial fan units and all operating features are identical.
The main difference from axial fan units is the galvanised
steel centrifugal impeller. This type of impeller has non-
adjustable fixed blades, see previous paragraph for the
clutch. This impeller is able to produce much higher delivery
pressure head, with an air flow at very high speed.
The cannon distributor is fitted on a turntable, which is
standard adjustable by loosening the appropriate stop
screw. This adjustment must be carried out with stopped
impeller because the high air speed makes the distributor’s
motion dangerous.
ATTENTION
This adjustment can only be performed with the
impeller stopped and for no reason can anyone be
present in the machine’s operating range if equipped
with PTO transmission and rotating impeller or if you
act on the controls on the driver’s seat!
