6.2 Coaxial Cable Installation
NOTE
Due to cable loss requirements, older coaxial cable may need to be replaced, i.e., RG-58. Refer to
section 4.2 for additional details.
Any standard 50 ohm, double shielded coaxial cable that meets the attenuation requirements with connectors can be
used, depending on the installation configuration and cable length.
1. Route the transponder coaxial cable to the GDL 82 location.
2.
Secure the cable.
3.
Trim the coaxial cable to the desired length.
4.
Install the TNC or BNC connectors per the manufacturer’s instructions.
5.
Ensure the coaxial line to the transponder is connected to the XPDR port and the antenna coaxial line to the ANT
port.
Table 6-1 Coaxial Cable Specifications
[1] RG type coaxial cable insertion loss can change significantly between manufacturers. The insertion loss for
RG type cables shown is considered the worst case scenario. Refer to the cable manufacturer’s specification
sheet for the actual cable attenuation (insertion loss).

[3] RG types are obsolete, reference only, and replaced by M17 type numbers.
Cables are shown for reference only. Any standard 50 ohm, double-shielded coaxial cable assembly that meets the
attenuation (with connectors) and airworthiness requirements can be used. A loss of 0.2 dB can be used for each
connection when calculating cable loss. Cables that meet the specifications in table 6-1 are satisfactory for GDL 82
installations.
