5 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
5.1 Sequence of Operation
This section helps you to get familiar with the mechanical and electrical controls, and the
operations of the HEEGM broiler. For a comprehensive overview of the HEEGM operation, please
use this section together with the
Wiring Diagrams in section “7 Wiring Diagrams”
.
To find out where the major components are installed, see “4.1.2 Major Components”.
Operation Sequence:
The sequence numbers are referenced in the illustrations on the following two pages.
1
Turn on the gas and electrical controls using the burners ON/OFF switch(es).
220-240V models
have a Main Power Switch, which has to be turned on before the ON/OFF
switch(es) for the burners can be energized.

48”, 60” models
A 48” or 60” model has TWO burner control switches. The LEFT and RIGHT switches work
independently. See illustrations on page 12.
48” Model
: The LEFT Switch controls burners# 1-4. The RIGHT Switch controls burners# 5-9.
60” Model
: The LEFT Switch controls burners# 1-6. The RIGHT Switch controls burners# 7-11.

When switched on, electrical power is routed to the solenoid gas valves. The solenoid valves
open and distribute gas, through the manifold(s) to each mechanical Hi-Low gas valve.
i
The mechanical Hi-Low GAS VALVES have NO OFF POSITION; they ARE ALWAYS OPEN.
All units are factory set for optimal flame size. Each burner is evaluated for full flame kernel
combustion appearance through adjustment of the burner air shutter (see “6.5 Burner and Air
Shutter”).
3
When switched on, electrical power is also routed to the ignition module(s), which supplies
high voltage energy to each electrical ignitor, generating a spark. Each ignitor will continue to
spark until a flame is established at all burners.
i
Once flame has been established at all burners, the sparking will stop. However,
the module will continue to monitor and sense each flame. If the flame at any burner is
extinguished, the ignition module will re-start the spark cycle.
4
If all burners have come on, we can conclude that the unit is working properly. All port flame
kernels should exhibit complete combustion — pure blue flame with no or minimum yellow.
If the appearance of the flame is abnormal, adjust the burner air shutter (see “6.5 Burner and
Air Shutter”).
