4 SETTING UP
MULTI I/O SETUPS
The flexibility of the new Input and Output blocks allows some very cool and complex setups to be basically self-
explanatory. The diagrams below show ideas for rigs which in the past might have required intricate explanations,
but are now just presets.
The ideas in these layouts might inspire other setups, perhaps in combination with the rig setup diagrams found
earlier in this section. For example, you might use extra Inputs and Outputs to insert outboard gear, or use
different backline and front-of-house options. The only limit is your imagination.
For clarity only, all blocks are shown engaged instead of bypassed.
DUAL OUTPUT GUITAR
Here, Inputs 1 and 2 are used independently with the magnetic and piezo outputs of a dual-output guitar. The two
signals eventually merge for some “mastering” effects before being passed to Output 1 in full layered stereo.
Each chain has a huge complement of effects including amp and cab modeling. The amp for the piezo out might
use a “Tube Preamp” model and an acoustic guitar simulation User Cab downloaded from Axe-Change.

FULLY INDEPENDENT GUITAR AND BASS
This rig processes full guitar and bass rigs at the same time! Guitar uses Input 1 and Output 1. Bass uses Input 2
and Output 2. This setup would have required two separate Axe-Fx II units to accomplish. You can easily imagine
adapting a setup like this to process two electric guitars, or separate simultaneous electric and acoustic. By the
way, these signal paths are copies of actual presets used by some artists who endorse Fractal Audio.

GUITAR CHAIN + MIXER EFFECTS
Let’s look at a more vertical example. Here, a mini FRFR guitar rig is combined with three rich sets of effects
imagined to be integrated with a mixer for live performance. I/O pair 2 is used for a special vocal FX insert chain,
complete with a raging Drive block. Chain 3 is a massive stereo shimmer for a keyboard rig, controlled by its own
volume pedal. Chain 4 contains a bevy of effects, imagined to be used in different scenes on an Aux bus.
