10.1.8 Adjusting the overrun brake (tandem)

Overrun brake mechanism
Procedure
-
Position the tank trailer on solid, level ground.
-
Use the supplied wheel chocks to secure the tank trailer against rolling away.
-
Raise the axle off the ground.
-
Set the overrun mechanism and parking brake to release position.
-
Release the turnbuckle (
A
).
-
Turn the adjusting screw (
C
) clockwise until the wheel does not turn in the direction of travel.
-
Turn the adjusting screw (
C
) back until no more braking effect can be felt when the wheel is turned forward.
-
Perform these steps for all braked wheels.
-
Reconnect the pull rods to the overrun brake mechanism and adjust such that there is no free play.
-
First tighten the turnbuckle (
A
) until no more play exists in transfer direction and the wheel can turn freely.

To do this, the drawbar must be pulled completely out of the overrun brake mechanism and the reversing lever must be resting
on the drawbar.

As a test, apply the parking brake slightly and check that the braking torque is the same on both the left and right wheels (in the
direction of travel).
-
Gently apply the parking brake to ensure even activation of the brakes of an axle or assembly. Adjust the brake setting if
necessary.
The wheel brake must only be adjusted via the adjusting screw.

axles. The necessary data is provided on the type plate of the installed axles.
