The jumper plug is used to bypass the emergency stop circuit when the handheld terminal is discon-
nected.
Foreseeable misuse of the jumper plug
The jumper plug must be removed before commissioning the hazardous machine function.
14 Appendix: Safety of machinery
Directives of the European Union
A key objective of the European Union is the creation of a single European market and, consequently,
the free movement of goods. This means that quantitative restrictions on the import of goods between
Member States are prohibited.
This does not apply to goods that endanger the safety of people or the environment. Such products
can be prohibited by member states on their territory. In order to ensure the free movement of goods
for these products as well, the national safety regulations of the member states are harmonised by dir-
ectives of the European Union.
These guidelines are suitable for a number of product classes, such as: machines, medical devices or
even toys. However, similar directives have also been developed for other common safety aspects of
products, such as protection against electricity, explosion protection and electromagnetic compatibil-
ity. The directives are directed at the member states, which must implement the directives in their
national laws. The directives therefore have the character of law.
The "CE" marking means that the manufacturer certifies that all obligations of the EU directives
applicable to the product have been fulfilled. The CE mark, which the manufacturer applies to the
products, is the "passport" within the EU and is intended for the monitoring authorities.
Supplementary to this, conformity with the EU directives can be checked by independent, accredited
certification bodies and this can be confirmed with an EC type examination certificate.
For handheld terminals, in addition to the EMC Directive (EMC Directive 2014/30/EU), the Machinery
Directive (MD 2006/42/EC) must also be applied.
