f
Remove the fuel tank cap.
f
Add fuel to the upper level of the fuel tank.
Leave a minimum 5 mm of space between the
top of the fuel and the inside edge of the tank to
allow for expansion. Half the length of the fuel
tank cap filter can also work as the upper fuel
level sign, where available.
f
Reposition the fuel tank cap and tighten appro
-
priately.
WARNING
The fuel tank cap is provided with an air vent knob
to stop fuel flow. The air vent knob must be turned
to “ON”. This will allow fuel to flow to the carburetor
and the engine to run. When the engine is not in use,
turn the air vent knob to “OFF” to stop fuel flow.
WARNING
Always use clean container for storing fuel and do
not use fuel stored for more than a month.
Oil specifications: For general use (5°C - 38°C) the
recommended oil is 4-stroke engine oil SAE 15W40
(Fig. 4).
Engine oil capacity: Refer to “TECHNICAL DATA TA
-
BLE”
To fill the engine with oil:
f
Remove the oil filler cap (Fig. 5.1) from the en
-
gine oil filler neck (Fig. 5.2). The bottom part of
it is the oil level indicator.
f
Gradually add enough oil to bring the oil level
to the lip of the oil filler neck, up to the upper
level (Fig. 5.3) and not lower than the lower level
(Fig. 5.4).
f
Reposition the oil filler cap and tighten appro
-
priately.
WARNING
Use a funnel in order to avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe
off any spilled fuel and oil before starting the engine.
To connect the battery (Fig. 6), applies only to
models with electric start:
f
Open the battery panel.
f
Remove the battery from its position.
f
Connect the positive (red) cable to the positive
pole of the battery.
f
Connect the negative (black) cable to the nega
-
tive pole of the battery.
f
Reposition the battery and its panel.
STARTING THE UNIT
Before starting the machine:
f
Make sure both the machine and you are on sta
-
ble ground.
f
Check that all the fasteners are secured in po
-
sition.
f
Disconnect all electrical loads from the genera-
tor. Never start or stop the generator with elec-
trical devices plugged in or turned on.
f
Check that the air filter is clean and that the air
intake and exhaust are not clogged by any for
-
eign materials.
f
Fill with the required quantity of oil and fuel.
To start the machine:
f
Turn the ESC switch to “OFF” (Fig. 1.12).
f
Turn the air vent knob of the fuel tank (Fig. 7)
to “ON”.
f
Move the main switch (Fig. 8) to the “CHOKE”
position.
NOTE
This step applies only to cold starting of the engine.
When the engine is already warm or the environ-
ment temperature is high, the main switch should
remain at "ON" position at all times.
Grip firmly the handle of the machine with your left
hand and the starter grip (Fig. 9.2) of the engine with
your right hand. Pull the starter grip until you feel
resistance to engage the engine and then pull firmly
to start the engine.
WARNING
To avoid breaking the starter rope (Fig. 9.1), do not
pull the whole length of it or let it slide along the
edge of the cable guide hole. Release the starter
gradually, to avoid letting it fly back uncontrollably.
NOTE:
For machines with electric ignition, you can use the
ignition switch instead, by pushing it briefly until the
engine starts.
As the engine warms up, move the main switch to
"ON" position, if the engine was cold started.
NOTE
For maximum performance and reliability, allow the
engine to warm up before operating at full load, run-
ning it for two to three minutes at idle speed.
OPERATING THE UNIT
Main switch
f
OFF: The ignition circuit is switched off and the
fuel is switched off. The engine will not run.
f
ON: The ignition circuit is switched ON, the fuel
is switched ON and the choke is switched ON.
The engine can run.
f
CHOKE The ignition circuit is switched ON, the
fuel is switched on and the choke is switched
OFF. The engine can start.
Power output indicator
The AC light (Green) comes on when the engine
starts and produces power.
Low oil indicator
When the oil level falls below the lower level, the
oil warning light (Red) comes on and then the en
-
gine stops automatically. Unless you refill with oil,
the engine will not start again.
NOTE
If the engine stalls or does not start, turn the engine
switch to “ON” and then pull the recoil starter. If the
oil warning light flickers for a few seconds, the en
-
gine oil is insufficient. Add oil and restart.
Overload indicator
The overload indicator light (Red) comes on when
an overload of a connected electrical device is de-
tected, the inverter control unit overheats, or the
AC output voltage rises. Then, the AC protector
will trip, stopping power generation in order to
protect the generator and any connected electric
devices. The AC pilot light (Green) will go off and
the overload indicator light (Red) will stay on, but
the engine will not stop running.
When the overload indicator light comes on and
