BlackDiamond 8800 Series Switches Hardware Installation Guide

Selecting Cable

This section provides information that is helpful when you must select the cables to be used with the
BlackDiamond 8800 series switch.

Cable Distances

Table 17

shows cable media types and maximum distances that support reliable transmission in

accordance with international standards, except where noted.

RJ-45 Connector Jackets

Use RJ-45 cable with connector jackets that are flush with the connector or that have connectors with a
no-snag feature.

Using cable with jackets that are wider than the connectors can cause:

●

Connectors that are not properly aligned with the port.

●

Crowded cable installation, which can cause connectors to pop out of the port.

Figure 40

shows examples of connector jacket types that are not recommended, as well as those that are

recommended.
