A s shown in Figure 6-5 , the underline mode is continuous , but some
word p ro c ess ing and other applications programs produce an un der -
lin e th a t l ea ves spaces between characters as demonstrated in the
prin to ut b e low.
I f t h e so ft wa r e prints this type of underline , it is using the L X-80's
und e rlin e c h a r a cter (ASCII 95) , not the underline mode . B ecause
th e und e rl i n e character is only five dots wide, it does not fi l l the
s p a c es b e t we en characters . If you prefer a continuous und erline,
yo u may b e able to use the underline mode through on e of the
m e th o d s we discussed in Chapter 4.
Master Select
T h e L X - 80 has a special <ESC> code called Master Sel ec t that
a ll ows yo u to choose any possible combination of eight dif ferent
m o d es: pic a, e lite, condensed, emphasized , double-strike , enl a r ged,
i t a lic , and underline. The format of the Master Select c ode is
