Water quality
Quality of heating water
The composition and quality of the
circulation water directly affect the
whole system's performance and the
operating life of the heat pump.
For the first filling and top up of the
system, it is normal to use running
water with a pH value of 7-8, provided
that it isn't too corrosive (chloride con-
tent > 150 mg/l) or too hard (>14° dH;
hardness class IV). It is possible to
request an analysis of drinking water
from the relevant water supplier.
If the specific system's volume is
more than 25 litres per kW of heating
power (for example, with the insertion
of a buffer accumulator for heating
water), the maximum allowable calci-
um contribution through filling and
topping up water must be determined
on the basis of the VDI 2035 di-
rective's calculations.
If necessary, soften the filling water.
Do not use anti-corrosion chemical
additives.
In addition, for Austria, the following
applies: ÖNORM H 5195-1.
In addition, for Switzerland, the follow-
ing applies: SITC n. 97-1.
Unknown water quantity and sys-
tem replacement
The presence of substances and ad-
ditives in the heating water can jeop-
ardise the correct operation and life
duration of the heat pump.
Therefore:
•
before replacing the old sys-
tem, heat up the whole system
and empty it
or
•
very carefully rinse the heating
system; system rinse should
be carried out a short time
before commissioning.
Criterion
Allowable value
Effects in case of non-compliance
PH value
7 - 8
Risk of corrosion to boiler components
and heating system
Water hardness
< 14 dH
Increased lime scale deposits
Shorter operating life of the heat pump
Chloride content
< 150 mg/l
Corrosion of alloyed metals
Washing, filling, deaerating
The heating side must be washed and
filled. The water for filling must be
treated in compliance with the current
VDI 2035 directions.
It is essential to fully deaerate the
heating system in order not to jeop-
ardise the correct operation of the
heat pump. It is therefore necessary
to make provisions for a deaerator.
The filling pressure for the cold ex-
pansion tank should have the follow-
ing value: inlet pressure MAG + 0.2
bar (expansion reserve).
The precharge pressure of the expan-
sion tank must be adapted to local
conditions (static height: 1 m = 0,1
bar).
Filling must be carried out in
compliance with DIN EN 1717.
Warning: comply with water
quality VDI 2035.
