Installation
Checklist for correct set-up
The air intake as well as the air ex-
haust must be kept clean and should
not be blocked by snow, leaves,
plants, equipment or other obstacles.
The minimum specified clearances
must be maintained, not only for the
air flow, but also for maintenance
purposes. The air intake must be
protected against corrosive sub-
stances, such as ammonia, chlorine,
etc.
The AEROTOP G heat pumps are
characterized by noise-reduced
operation. Errors during installation,
however, can lead to unwanted noise
levels under unfavourable conditions.
Careful assessment of the noise
emissions is required when planning
heat pump systems.
Pointers for the set-up of air-water heat pumps
Any reverberating surface
doubles the sound pressure level
Avoid reverberating surfaces. Placement in a niche, in a recessed corner of a facade,
under a projecting roof or a balcony can increase the sound pressure level by up to
+6dB.
Maintaining minimum dimensions
reduces the sound reverberation
and the blockage of air and
improves the flow of air near the
fan
Minimum clearances to intake and exhaust. No walls or other obstacles should be built
around the heat pump to ensure an even flow of air to the fan.
Less pressure losses = lower circumferential speed = reduction off air noise.
Construction measures can
reduce noise, plants cannot.
Use constructional measures to interrupt the spreading of noise from the heat pump
(direct noise propagation). Use solid walls, fences, palisades, etc. to reduce noise
levels. Plants, on the other hand, have only a visual effect.
Consider different noise sensi-
tivity levels
Avoid placing the heat pump where it may cause problems due to its noise emission
(bedrooms, living rooms, neighbors, etc.). Position heat pumps in areas where noise
is less likely to be an annoyance. Place the heat pump on the least noise sensitive
side of the house.
Separation from structures mini-
mizes structure-borne sound
Always use flexible connections: flexible hoses for heat distribution, flexible electrical
connections.
A proper base or pedestal
reduces structure-borne noise
sound
The pedestal or base must have adequate load-bearing capacity and must be even
and levelled.
After installing the heat pump, use the adjustable feet for additional levelling.
Always comply with all rules,
regulations, and applicable laws.
Germany: TA Lärm (Technical Instructions on Noise)
Switzerland: LSV (Noise Abatement Ordinance)
“Extra noise-reducing measures
taken early in the development pro-
cess are the least expensive.
Measures taken later are often much
more expensive and require a great
amount of time and effort.” [Heat
Pump Manual, Federal
Energy Office, Switzerland].
The following points should be
observed when setting up air-water
heat pumps.
