3 System Description
3.1 Overview
3.1.1 Overview
The system description of the machine:
• provides an overview of the printer and its main functions
• contains a detailed description of the most important units
The XPRT 1 screen printer processes solder pastes (precious metal
pastes), resistor pastes, dielectric materials, silicones, conductive adhe-
sives, lacquers and protective coatings to a degree of accuracy and qual-
ity that is absolutely essential for the production of sophisticated film
circuitry such as hybrids, multilayers, LCDs, components, chip carriers
and solar cells, and for SMD technology in general.
The frame is a welded steel structure. The printer has compact dimen-
sions: 1500 mm x 1110 mm x 1480 mm.
All machines have two independent, pneumatically-driven squeegee
heads with a continuously regulated pressure accurate to within
±0.004 MPa.
Printing can be performed on flexible or rigid base materials such as
glass, ceramics, plastic or metal, with a material thickness of up to 10
mm.
The semi-automatic screen printer is operated with a keypad and other
operating elements.
A programmable logic controller (PLC) takes care of control of the ma-
chine. The supporting frame is made of rugged Itemprofil.
The printing table is finely adjustable in the X, Y and theta directions. In
conjunction with the manual optical positioning system (MOPS), it is per-
fectly possible to achieve printing results in the fine pitch range.
3.1.2 Printing sequence
The operator sets up the printing stencil in the machine by hand. Two
clamping cylinders fix the stencil in position in the guideway.
The operator adjusts the squeegee pressure with the pressure regulator.
The solder paste is applied to the stencil by hand. The squeegee param-
eters, such as squeegee speed, front and rear squeegee position, print-
ing mode and separation speed, are entered in the main menu. The front
cover over the print area must remain closed during printing.
