5.3.2 Scanning Environment
Incorrect lighting will account for most scanning errors, such as missing
and stray markers in the 3D sensor cloud (section 2.4.4).
The following will facilitate your scanning success:
Light interference.
GeoScan’s operating wavelength range is
850–950 nanometers. Other light in the same range could
interfere with GeoScan’s performance. Therefore, check the
specifications of other devices in the scanning environment and
ensure that the light emitted by them is
not within the
wavelength range of 850–950 nanometers.
If unsure, turn all unneeded light-emitting devices off.
Minimize IR interference. Minimize exposure to
sources of IR interference, such as sunlight ,
ceiling lights
, and
plasma monitors
.
Even indirect
sunlight
coming in through a
window can cause IR interference for the
GeoScan scanner. Therefore, close window
shades or use GeoScan in a room with no windows.
Nonreflective background. Only scan against a
nonreflective background.
Remove or cover shiny or reflective surfaces. Remove or drape
covers over any nearby shiny or reflective surfaces.
Remove shiny personal objects (eyeglasses, watches, belt
buckles, etc.). Have subjects remove their eyeglasses,
watches, or belt buckles while being scanned.
