SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
WARNING
BEFORE INSPECTING OR SERVICING ANY PART OF THIS MACHINE, SHUT OFF POWER SOURCE,
AND MAKE SURE ALL MOVING PARTS HAVE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP.
Figure 5.1, Chipper Blade Surfaces
1.
Install the rotor lock (Section 5.2). The rotor is now
restrained for installing the blades.
2. Place a blade on the rotor and attach using original
hardware. Torque the bolts to 25 ft-lbs (34 Nm).
Repeat for the remaining blade.
3. Remove rotor lock.
4. Lower the access cover and secure to the chipper
housing using 3/8" retaining bolt.
5.6 INSTALLING THE BLADES
Figure 5.3, Examples of Damage to Knives
Do not attempt to sharpen shredder knives. Inspect the
knives often for signs of damage.
If a knife has any sign of cracking or is broken in any way,
it should be replaced immediately.
5.7 SHREDDER KNIVES MAINTENANCE
3. Be careful when grinding so that the blade does
not become overheated and change color. This will
remove the heat-treated properties.
4. Use short grinding times and cool with water or some
type of liquid coolant.
5.
Remove an equal amount off each blade to maintain
rotor balance.
6. Small imperfections such as nicks and burrs on
the flat side of the blade will not affect the chipping
performance of the machine.
7. For blades that have been repeatedly sharpened,
ensure that the sharpened surface extends past
the chipping slot opening. If it does not extend past
the opening, the blades should be replaced (see
Section 5.3).
1. Open the knife access cover by removing the 3/8"
carriage bolt.
2. Remove #10-24 nuts and bolts from the knife shafts.
3. Using a small punch or rod, drive the shaft out of the
rotor.
4. To assemble, insert shaft through the hole in the rotor
and slide knives and spacers in their proper order
onto the shaft. Install a new # 10-24 nut and bolt.
5. Repeat to assemble the other shafts.
6. Retorque nuts to 36 in-lbs.
5.8 REMOVING THE SHREDDER KNIVES
The serrated edge of the shredder knives should face
the same direction as the cutting edge of the chipper
blades. Never reuse the #10-24 nut and bolt. Never
reuse shafts or spacers if they show signs of wear or
abuse. Always install new parts when repairing.
