Installing the RLY-800 on a Pole or Wall

The RLY-800 mounting bracket accommodates
mounting the RLY-800 with either lag bolts or band
clamps.

The RLY-800 mounting bracket provides two pre-
drilled mounting holes to attach the assembly to a
wooden pole or wall with two lag bolts. The lag bolts
should be 3/8 inch diameter by 3 inches or longer to
secure the RLY-800 and bracket assembly.

Two customer-supplied band clamps are required to
install the RLY-800 to a metal pole. Band clamps
may also be used on wooden poles.

Ensure that the front door has room to open at least
90 degrees. The minimum required clearance is 8
inches (20.3 cm) in front of the mounting surface.

Perform the following steps to install the RLY-800 on
a pole or wall:

1. Identify a mounting location for the RLY-800

that is near the top of the pole to maximize the
effectiveness of the relay.
Keep in mind that a power source is required for
the device and possible external antenna
considerations.

2. Orient the RLY-800 and mounting bracket

assembly as required for the installation.
Se

page 6

 for more information.

3. If you are using lag bolts, mark the locations of

the lag bolt holes and drill a pilot hole to
facilitate installing the lag bolts.
If you are using band clamps, install the top and
bottom clamps and tighten, then proceed with

step 8

.

4. Install the lower lag bolt leaving room for the

bracket to slip over the bolt.

5. Install the RLY-800 and mounting bracket

assembly over the lower lag bolt.

6. Install the upper lag bolt and secure the RLY-

800 and mounting bracket assembly to the pole.

7. Finish tightening the lower lag bolt.
8. If the RLY-800 uses an external antenna that is

attached to the enclosure, install the antenna at
this time.

You are ready to supply power to the RLY-800 as
described in

“Wiring the RLY-800” on page 12

 or

install an external antenna as described in

“Installing an External Remote Antenna” on page 11

.

CAUTION:

As shown in

Figure 11

, RLY-800’s that

use an external attached antenna must be oriented
so that the antenna is pointing towards the ground;
otherwise, moisture may damage the RLY-800.
