Installing an External Remote Antenna

An external remote antenna can be connected to the
RLY-800 with a coaxial cable though the Type-N RF
Bulkhead External Antenna Connector. This
connector is shown in

Figure 3 on page 5

.

Perform the following steps to install and connect an
external remote antenna to the RLY-800:

1. Identify the installation location for the mast

pole and external remote antenna on the utility
pole.

2. Mark the location for the all-thread rods that will

attach the mast pole to the utility pole.

3. Drill two holes through the utility pole for

installing the 5/8 inch all-thread rods.

4. Install the mast pole onto the all-thread rods.
5. Secure the all-thread rods to the utility pole and

mast pole with 5/8 inch washers and nuts.

6. Attach the external remote antenna to the mast

pole with two mounting brackets.

7. Install washers and nuts to secure the external

remote antenna and bracket to the mast pole.

8. Attach a lightening arrestor to the external

remote antenna.

9. Install a copper grounding rod at the base of the

utility pole below the lightening arrestor.

10.Route a 10 AWG ground wire between the

lightening arrestor and the copper grounding
rod and secure with ground wire staples.

11.Attach the ground wire to the lightening

arrestor that was installed on the antenna.

12.Attach the ground wire to the copper

grounding rod with a ground rod clamp.

13.Route a 400 series N-Connect Male to N-

Connect Male antenna cable between the
lightening arrestor and the RLY-800.

14.Connect the antenna cable to the remote

external antenna.

15.Connect the antenna cable to the RLY-800

external antenna connector.

16.Secure the antenna cable to the utility pole with

antenna cable clamps.

The external remote antenna installation is
completed. You are ready to supply power to the
RLY-800 as described in

“Wiring the RLY-800” on

page 12

 or

“Wiring the RLY-800 to a Street Light

Sensor” on page 12
