Intended Use
The sensing heads Polytron SE Ex PR M and SE Ex LC M are intended to be used
for stationary, continuous monitoring for combustible gas/air or vapour/air mixtures
below the Lower Explosion Limit (LEL) resp. below 10 % of the LEL under atmosphe-
ric conditions.
The sensing heads are marked by the device categories II 2G and II 2D and thus can
be operated in hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres of zones 1
and 2 and also zones 21 and 22.
The type of protection for gas explosion protection according to device category 2
(zones 1 or 2) is flameproof enclosure and increased safety, "de".
For dust explosion protection according to device category 2 (zones 21 or 22) the
enclosure protection is IP 6x.
According to the European directive 94/9/EC the sensing head Polytron SE Ex
HT M is an assembly consisting of three components (Ex-sensor HT M, enclosure
and cable gland), where all these three components are type approved according to
94/9/EC and marked by the device category II 2GD. Thus this sensing head is
suitable to be operated in hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres of
zone 1 and zone 2 as well as zone 21 and 22.
Sensing Head SE Ex PR M for a measuring range of 0 to 100 %LEL
The sensing head Polytron SE Ex PR M comprises a gas sensor type Ex-sensor
PR M (protection type flameproof enclosure and increased safety, "de" resp. enclos-
ure protection IP 6x, DMT 97 ATEX E 001 X). It must not be operated at ambient tem-
peratures lower than –50

C. The maximum ambient temperature is 40
o
C for
temperature class T6, 55

C for temperature class T5, and 85
o
C for temperature
class T4.
Dust explosion protection: At the maximum ambient temperatures of 40
