Importing Drill Plan Data Points
You must have a comma separated value (CSV) data file of the appropriate format to use the import
function in the topography data table.
To create a CSV file of the appropriate format:
1. Open a spreadsheet program such as Excel.
2. Skip or enter notes and column headings on the first two rows. They will be ignored when the
data is imported.
3. Beginning on the third row of the spreadsheet, enter three columns of data:
Column A
– List the horizontal distance that each drill plan data point is from the drill rig in
order from the closest to the farthest.
Column B
– List the associated relative depth (vertical distance from the surface of the
ground at the drill rig) for each plan point listed in column A. If no depth data is entered for a
plan point, there will be a gap in the drill plan profile graph for that distance.
Column C
– List the associated planned course deviation (right/left distance from the
reference heading line) for each plan point listed in column A. If no depth data is entered for a
plan point, there will be a gap in the drill plan view graph for that distance.
4. Save the spreadsheet file in its standard format so that it can be found later.
5. Save the spreadsheet file again in the same location using the
File | Save As
command to save it
as a CSV (*.csv) file type, which is available as a pull-down option in most spreadsheet software.
In some cases, you may have to change the file extension to *.csv. Some features of the original
spreadsheet may be lost when saving as this file type. The information required for importing the
terrain data into the LWD software should be retained.
6. Close the CSV file.
To import a CSV file into the drill plan data table:
1. Right-click anywhere in the drill plan data table and select Import, or select the
File | Import
command and click on Drill Plan
Data… A Windows Explorer dialog box will display.
2. Locate and select the CSV file previously saved and click on Open. The drill plan data table will
populate, and the profile and plan view charts will populate with all entered data including the
gray line representing the drill plan graph.
