Verifying the Ethernet Subsystem

Steps to Verify

Before connecting to a network, you need to verify that the
Ethernet subsystem (the Ethernet controller chip on the system
board) is operating properly by following these steps:

1.

Turn on ( | ) your system. The light on the back of the
Ethernet loopback connector should come on. The start-up
display, shown in Figure 3–1, appears on the screen.
