This appliance must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and local codes. In the 

absense of local codes, follow the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1 or the CAN/CGA B149 Installation Codes.

A.  

This appliance does not have a pilot.  It is equipped with an ignition device which automatically lights 

the burner.  Do not attempt to light the burner by hand.

B.

 

BEFORE OPERATING

 smell all around the appliance area for gas.  Be sure to smell next to the floor 

because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS:

• Do not try to light any appliance.

• Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use any phone in the building.

• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.

• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

C. 

Use only your hand to turn the manual shut-off knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not turn by 

hand, don’t try to repair it; call a qualified service technician.  Forcing or attempting a repair may 

result in a fire or explosion.

D.

  Do not use this appliance if any part has been under water. Immediately call a qualified service 

technician to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the control system and any gas control 

which has been under water.

10.

  Turn on all electric power to the appliance.

11.

  Set thermostat to desired setting.

12.

  If the appliance will not operate, follow the 

instructions “

and call your service technician or gas supplier.

1. STOP! 

Read the safety information in the manual

    prior to proceeding.

2. 

Set the thermostat to the lowest setting.

3. 

Turn off all electric power to the appliance.

4. 

This appliance is equipped with an ignition device            

    which automatically lights the burner

 DO NOT 

try to  

    light the burner by hand.

5. 

Open the Access Panel.

6. 

Move the gas control switch to the “OFF” postion.

7. 

Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you   

    smell gas,

 STOP! 

Follow

 “B” 

in the safety information  

    above on what to do if you smell gas. If you do not   

    smell gas, proceed to the next step.

8. Move the gas control switch to the “ON” postion.

9. Close and secure the control access panel.

 Turn the manual shut-off valve located outside of  

    the unit to the closed position.

 Close and secure the access panel.

personnel only. The installation of this heater must conform to the requirements of the manual and 
local building codes. In absence of such codes, refer to the latest edition of the National Fuel Gas 
Code, NFPA 54 (ANSI Z223.1).

This is 

NOT an explosion-proof heater. Where there is the possibility of exposure to flammable 

vapors or dusts, consult the local authorities, fire insurance carrier, or other authorities for approval 
of the proposed installation. 

DO NOT install in explosive environments.

VENTING: This heater MUST be properly connected to a manufacturer’s approved 
vent system and comply with the following requirements:
DO NOT exceed 20 feet of vent length or place more than two (2) 90˚ directional 
changes in the venting system.  See DST Series Manual (LIODST) for complete 
venting instructions.

This heater requires fresh air for for safe operation and must be installed so there are provisions for 
adequate combustion and ventilation air.  

DO NOT operate this heater without installing the 

exhaust/air intake vents supplied with the heater.  Refer to the installation instructions for 
installation details. Operation of this heater when not connected to a properly installed and 
maintained venting system can result in carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and possible death. 

When operating this unit in unvented applications (Non-residential only) a minimum ventilation rate 
of 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU/h is required to properly displace the products of combustion. 

GAS CONNECTION: 
Allowance must be made for the 
system to expand and contract as 
this unit operates. A flexible gas 
connection of approved type is 
required. Flexible stainless steel 
gas connector installed in one 
plane, and without sharp bends, 
kinks, or twists is required. 

WARNING: The connector MUST 
be installed in a “C” configuration. 
Use only the connector that is 
furnished with this heater.  
Consult installation manual for 
futher instructions.
