Installing the hard drive backplane

Prerequisites

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only 
perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as 
directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is 
not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions 

that are shipped with your product.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the control panel flex cable, do not to bend the control panel 
flex cable after it is inserted into the connector.

1.

Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions section.

2.

Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.

Steps
1.

Align the slots on the backplane release tabs with the guide pins on the chassis.

2.

Slide the hard drive backplane into the chassis until the release tabs snap into place.

3.

Connect the SAS/SATA data, signal, and power cable(s) to the backplane.

Install the hard drives in their original locations.
