The Link system cannot replace an O
2
monitor. Sufficient O
2
in the
fresh gas may not prevent hypoxic mixtures in the breathing circuit.
Nitrous oxide (N
2
O) flows through the system during this test. Use a
safe and approved procedure to collect and remove it.
Incorrect gas mixtures can cause patient injury. If the Link system
does not supply O
2
and N
2
O in the correct proportions, do not use
the system.
To perform the flow control tests:
1.
Connect the pipeline supplies or slowly open the cylinder valves.
2.
Turn all flow controls fully clockwise (minimum flow).
3.
Turn on the system.
4.
Do not use the system if low battery or other ventilator failure alarms
occur.
5.
Make sure the O
2
flowtube shows approximately 25 to 75 mL/min. The
other flowtubes must show no gas flow.

Keep the Link system engaged during steps 6 and 7:
• Adjust only the test control (N
2
O in step 6 and O
2
in
step 7).
• Test the flows in sequence (N
2
O then O
2
).
• If you adjust the test control too far, set the flow controls to their
initial positions and do the step again.
• The O
2
sensor used in steps 6 and 7 must be correctly
calibrated.
6.
Test the N
2
O flow control:
•Turn the N
2
O and O
2
flow controls fully clockwise (minimum flow).
•Slowly turn the N
2
O flow control counterclockwise.
•Make sure that the O
2
flow increases.
The measured O
2
concentration must be
≥
21% through the full range.
