TRIM TABS
Trim Tabs with Drive Trim
Using trim tabs in conjunction with the drive trim will compensate for
uneven weight distribution, listing, water conditions and other factors
which cause inefficient operation. Remember that trim tabs are
trimming the hull while power trim is trimming the engine drive.
Water is deflected and redirected as the trim tabs are raised and
lowered. This change in water flow creates upward pressure under
the tabs and raises the stern. When the stern raises, the bow is
lowered. Lowering the port tab will cause the port stern to raise,
making the starboard bow lower. Lowering the starboard tab will
cause the starboard stern to raise, making the port bow lower.
Using the trim tabs with the drive trim:
1. Adjust the trim tabs to achieve a planing attitude.
2. Use the power trim to position the prop path parallel to the water
flow.
3. Readjust the trim tabs to fine tune attitude. Adjust the trim tabs in
small increments because adjustments will not occur immediately.
4. Do not overtrim or the bow will dig in, causing the boat to veer.
5. To avoid listing, do not move one tab significantly further down
than the other while underway.
