350 Express Series
Basic Systems Operation
DRIVE TRIM ANGLE
Trim angle is the angular relationship between the lower drive unit of
the engines and the transom of the boat.
Using the trim while underway greatly affects boat performance and
efficiency. To use power trim effectively, always start with the engine
trimmed in. As the boat planes, increase the angle out. Experience is
the best teacher for understanding proper trim. For best results, the
boat should be on plane and trimmed to reduce the wetted surface.
With less boat in the water, both speed and fuel economy increase.
The trim angle should be adjusted continuously for best results.
If the engine is trimmed down (bow down), speed drops, inefficiency
occurs, fuel economy decreases, and the boat may not handle
correctly. Trim down does provide better acceleration from a standstill
because it forces the bow down. If the engine is trimmed up (bow up),
steering torque may increase, leading to difficulty getting the boat on
plane and causing the boat to porpoise.
CAUTION
The carrier seal should be inspected regularly for
excessive water entry. If left unattended, excessive
water entry could result in the submergence of the
engine compartment, or of the entire yacht.
