23. Altimeter
a) Activating the Altimeter
Press the "ALTI" button, the display then shows the measurement value for the current
altitude.
The altimeter shows "LOW" at an altitude below -700m and "HIGH" at more
than 9000m.
The calculation of the altitude is carried out by barometric pressure
measurement. Thus the displayed value for a specific set altitude (e.g. your
apartment) can change if there is a change in barometric pressure.
For the reason it is not possible to determine the current altitude in a plane
which has a pressurised cabin.
The altimeter must not be used in place of professional instrumentation which
is to be used in objects such as are required in planes, helicopters or air sport
devices.
b) Selecting Units for Altitude
Press the "
" and/or. "
" button to adjust the altitude unit (m, ft).
c) Entering Reference Altitude
If you know the exact altitude (e.g. when it is displayed on a sign on the path you are trekking)
then you can enter this value as a reference altitude.
If the altitude is displayed at the bottom of the display, press the "MENU" button.
Use the "
" and/or "
" buttons to select the uppermost menu item ("REF. ALT") and
confirm with the "ENTER" button. The display shows "SET REF. ALTITUDE" and the
corresponding display for "ON" or "OFF" flashes.
Use the "
" and/or "
" buttons to select the "ON" button and press the "ENTER" button.
Use the "
" and/or "
" buttons to select the input field and use the "
" and/or "
" buttons
to set the value (or the preceding "+" or "-" to the left of the number).
Confirm the setting by pressing the "ENTER" button.
