network environments that require high-performance, high-quality IP transport with “always-
on” availability.
The CDD-880 supports from two through 12 independent demodulators (expandable, by pairs,
on a single card) in a single 1RU chassis. It features two 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE)
interfaces, and provides Comtech EF Data VersaFEC Forward Error Correction and an integrated
IP Packet Processor with Streamline Encapsulation (SLE) and Payload and Header Compression.
The Advanced VSAT Series product group can also be optionally managed by the Vipersat
Management System, specifically for situations where bandwidth requirements can dynamically
change.

1.2 Functional Description
The CDD-880 Multi Receiver Router:
•
Receives VersaFEC interoperable with Comtech EF Data’s CDM-840 / ODM-840 / ODMR-840
Remote Routers.
•
Features a high performance processor and a real-time operating system (RTOS) combined
with multiple Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
•
Runs on an embedded operating system in non-volatile Flash memory. It does not have
moving parts for media storage.
•
Features six plug-in card slots, each of which supports a VersaFEC/Streamline dual
demodulator card. This allows for six deployed configurations: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12
demodulators.
•
Supports reception and transmission of IP data over satellite links via two fundamentally
different types of interface –
IF
and
data
:
o
The
IF
interface provides downlink connectivity with the satellite.
o
The
data
interface is a bidirectional path that connects the customer’s equipment
(assumed to be the
D
ata
T
erminal
E
quipment, or DTE) to the unit (assumed to be the
D
ata
C
ommunications
E
quipment, or DCE). All terrestrial data is connected using the available
10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet interface.
Rx Features:
Overall, the receive path allows IP packets to be Streamline decapsulated, K4
decompressed if required, and then sent to the processor. IP packets are sent out the
appropriate Ethernet interface. Optimized E1 packets are received with IP/UDP headers and
routed to the appropriate CXU-810 RAN Optimizer on the hub network.
