whether the chain saw stops when the throttle lever is
released.
12. Switch the engine off before you put the chain saw
down.
13. Take particular care when cutting small bushes and
shoots as their thin branches may get caught in the saw
and then beat in your direction or throw you off balance.
14. When cutting branches that are under tension, take care
of possible kickbacks when the tension of the wood is
suddenly released.
15. Make sure that the handles are dry, clean and free from
oil or fuel mixture.
16. Only use the chain saw in well-ventilated places.
17. Do not cut trees with the chain saw unless you have
an appropriate qualification.
18. The whole maintenance of the chain saw, except for the
points mentioned in these operating and maintenance
instructions, must only be carried out by a specialised
technical service for chain saws.
19. Put on the protection cover for transporting the chain
saw.
20. Do not operate the chain saw next to are in the
presence of inflammable fluids or gases – whether
inside or outside of buildings. This would involve the
hazard of explosions and/or fire.
21. Do not fill in any fuel, oil or lubricant while the chain
saw is running.
22. USE APPROPRIATE SAWING MATERIAL ONLY:
Only cut wood. Do not use the chain saw for works it
is not designed for. Do not use the chain saw to cut
other materials as, for example, plastics, brickwork or
other construction materials.
NOTE:
The following appendix is mainly intended for
end consumers or occasional users. These models
are designed for occasional use by house owners,
cottage owners and campers, and can be used for all
general works as, for example, clearing, trimming,
cutting firewood etc.; they are not designed for longer
times of operation. In case of longer times of
operation, circulation disorders may occur in the
operator because of vibrations acting on the hands.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES FOR KICKBACKS
A kickback may occur if the tip of the bar touches an object
or the piece of wood pinches the bar inside the cut. If the tip
of the bar touches a hard object the bar could be pushed up
and back towards the operator extremely quickly. The same
is be possible if the chain saw is pinched along the upper
edge of the bar. In both cases, you may loose the control
over the saw and get seriously hurt. Do not fully rely on the
saw’s built-in safety features. As chain saw user you must
observe several points to make sure that your work
remains free from accidents and personal injury.
1. The principal awareness of possible kickbacks may
reduce or exclude the risk of their unexpected occur-
rence. Sudden reactions can lead to accidents.
2. Hold the saw fast with both hands when the engine is
running; the right hand should hold the rear handle, the
left hand the front handle. The thumb and fingers must
firmly embrace the handles of the chain saw. A firm
grip will help you to hold back kickbacks and to keep
the saw under control. Never let go of the running saw.
3. Make sure that the working area is free from obstacles.
During cutting, the tip of the bar must never touch a
log, branch or anything similar.
4. Cut at high engine speed.
5. Do not lean forward too far and do not cut above the
height of your shoulders.
6. Sharpen and maintain the chain saw according to the
manufacturer’s instructions.
7. Do only use replacement bars and chains authorised
by the manufacturer.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTES
On the chain brake lever / hand protector of the chain
saw there is a safety sign. Read the content of this sign
and the safety notes on these pages carefully before
you start using the saw.
SYMBOLS AND COLOURS
(Fig. 1)
[RED] ATTENTION !
Warns of a dangerous way of working that should
not be applied.
[GREEN] RECOMMENDED
A recommended way of working with the chain saw.
ATTENTION !
1. Beware of kickbacks.
2. Do not hold the chain saw with only one hand.
3. Avoid contact with bar tip.
RECOMMENDED
4. Hold the chain saw correctly with both hands.
DANGER ! BEWARE OF KICKBACKS !
ATTENTION ! Kickbacks may lead to a dangerous loss
of control over the chain saw which may result in
serious injury of the operator or other persons
standing nearby. Do always pay attention. Kickbacks
because of the movement of the chain or a pinched
bar are the main dangers of the work with a chain saw
and the main reason for most accidents.
BEWARE OF...
TURNING KICKBACK
(Fig. 2A)
A = direction of kickback
B = kickback response area
PUSH/PINCH KICKBACK
AND PULLING REACTIONS
(Abb. 2B)
A = pull kickback in direction of arrow
B = sawn timber
C = push kickback in direction of arrow
KICKBACK can occur when the NOSE or TIP touches an
object or the wood to be cut pinches the bar inside the cut.
If the tip of the bar touches a hard object the bar could be
violently pushed up and back towards the operator.
If the chain saw is PINCHED along the LOWER EDGE of
the bar it can be PULLED away from the operator in
forward direction. If the chain saw is PINCHED along the
UPPER EDGE of the bar it can be violently THROWN
BACK towards the operator.
In both cases, you may loose the control over the saw and
get seriously hurt.
