7.7 Drive chain inspection, adjustment and Lubrication

Drive chain adjustment

Driving chain inspection and lubrication

]

Driving chain is comprised of a number of moving parts. The service life of chain depends on good

lubrication and proper adjustment. If the chain maintenance and service is neglected, it could lead to

premature wear of the chain and chain sprockets. Therefore, always service the chain periodically. If each of

drive chain, engine sprocket, rear sprocket reaches the service limit, replace it.

Inspection procedure is as follows

1. Shift to neutral and the engine is shut off (ignition key removed).

Put a finger on the drive chain

and pull the chain up and down. The specified chain tension is 10mm~ 20

mm .

3. Inspect the wear of each link. If the link is defective, worn out or excessively extended, replace it.

4. Inspect the wear of engine sprocket and rear sprocket. If the gear teeth are worn out, lost or broken,

replace the sprocket.

Lubrication

：

1. Clean drive chain, engine sprocket, rear sprocket. Spray
the right amount of chain lubricant on the chain, engine sprocket
and rear sprocket after they are dry.
2. Clean and lubricate the chain, sprockets every 500 km.
Shorten the maintenance interval when the motorcycle is
used in dusty areas.
