GETTING READY
Formatting a Memory Card
Before u sing a ne w memory card for the first time, yo u need to
format it. Once yo u format a memory card, yo u w ill not need to
format it each time yo u u se it.
Formatting a memory card that already has files on it w ill delete
its contents.
IMPORTANT!
•
Note that data deleted b y a memory card format operation
cannot b e reco v ered. Do ub le-check to make s u re that yo u
really w ant to delete all the contents of the memory card
b efore proceeding w ith the format operation.

E v en if the file data on a memory card is protected (page
1 8 1), formatting the card w ill delete all its data.

Be s u re to u se the camera to format a memory card.
Formatting a memory card on a comp u ter and then u sing it
in the camera can slo w do w n data processing b y the
camera. In the case of an SD memory card or SDHC
memory card, formatting on a comp u ter can res u lt in non-
conformity w ith the SD format, ca u sing pro b lems w ith
compati b ility, operation, etc.

Load the memory card you want to format into
the camera.
2.
Turn on the camera and press [MENU].
3.
On the “Set Up” tab, select “Format” and then
press [
X
].
4.
Use [
S
] and [
T
] to select “Format” and then
press [SET] to start formatting.
After formatting is complete, enter the PLAY mode and
check to make s u re the “There are no files.” message
appears on the monitor screen.

To exit the format operation w itho u t formatting, select
“Cancel”.
