Table 2-6. VLAN Binding Options

Note: The Frame VLAN tags feature is not implemented in the current revision of

the operational code.

3. Set Automatic VLAN Creation to Enable if you want this port to automatically

create a VLAN each time it receives a frame from an unknown VLAN.

Note: This feature does not create entries in 3Com Mapping Tables.

4. Click APPLY to apply the changes. Click CANCEL to return the display to the

current settings.

To configure non-VLAN switch port parameters, complete the following steps from the
Detailed Switch Port Configuration screen (Figure 2-10 or Figure 2-11):

1. Set Allow Learning to Disable if you want a particular port to stop learning new

addresses.

2. Select a group from the pull-down menu if you want a particular port to be part of

a hunt group. Refer to the “Using Hunt Groups to Aggregate Bandwidth Between
Switches” in Chapter 3 for more information on hunt groups.

3. Use the Spanning Tree Mode pull-down menu to make the appropriate selection if

you want to enable or disable spanning tree protocol on this port.

4. Set Known Mode to Enable if you do not want packets with unknown unicast

destination addresses flooded to this port. For example, if a known end station or
file server (statically assigned in the Address Forwarding Table) is connected to the
port, there’s no need to flood unknown unicasts to that port.

Static

Assigns VLAN membership manually, using the VLAN Switch
Ports page described in the “Using Virtual LANs” section in
Chapter 4.

Bind to All

Binds this port all VLANs known to the switch. This an
appropriate mode for switch-to-switch connections. If you use
3Com Mapping Tables, this setting is ignored.

Bind to Received

Binds this port to any VLAN it receives traffic from.

NOTE: If Automatic VLAN Creation is enabled, the port will
bind to previously unknown VLANs, and a VLAN entry will be
added to the switch VLAN table. If Automatic VLAN Creation is
disabled, the port will not bind to any VLAN unknown to the
switch.
