¥ The Alarm Group: The Alarm Group periodically takes statistical
samples from variables in the system and compares them to thresholds
that have been conÞgured. This group stores conÞguration entries that
each deÞne, a variable, polling period, and threshold parameters.
¥ The Event Group: The Event Group consists of two groups.
¥ The Event Group
The Event Group: The Event Group controls the generation and
notiÞcation of events from this device. Each entry in this group
describes the parameters of the event that can be triggered.
and a sub group known as the
¥ Log Group:
The Log group is nothing more than a list of events. Each entry
in this group is a set of data describing a given event that has
been logged.
4.3.1 RMON High Level Description
The History Control Group and the Ethernet History
Group
These two groups work together to collect and save statistics for later
viewing. You can, via SNMP commands, create entries in the History
Control Group. Each control group identiÞes a source (data source) that
statistics are taken from, an interval to control how often the statistics are
taken, and a requested number of statistical snapshots that should be
saved (these snapshots are known as buckets).
Up to 30 snapshots (buckets) per control group entry can be conÞgured
and will be saved in memory. You are allowed to request up to a
maximum of 400 buckets. Up to 30 buckets may be assigned to a Control
Group as long as the total number of buckets does not exceed the
maximum of 400.
Each control group requires a timer to go off and trigger the collection of
data. Once the data is collected it is stored in the next available bucket of
the Ethernet History Group. Statistics are polled from the hardware and
stored in memory. The RMON function does not collect statistics from the
hardware directly, but rather references the copy in memory.
