Introduction

 

 ¥ Per Ethernet and Fast Ethernet port packet buffer supporting (1,061) 

128-byte packets or (88) 1518-byte packets per port.

 ¥ Per switch packet buffering is (28,672) 128-byte packets and (2,389) 

1518-byte packets.

Two modes of operation are supported, 802.1D and 802.1Q.   These are 
mutually exclusive.

Provide store and forward capability with the ability to switch to 
fragment free cut-through (starts forwarding after Þrst 128 bytes 
received) on a per system basis. Autonegotiation on all ports for full or 
half duplex mode. Autonegotiation of 10/100 Mbps for Fast Ethernet 
ports.

Two forms of ßow control are supported.

 ¥ In full duplex mode, 802.3x pause frames are supported.

 ¥ In half duplex mode, back pressure is supported.

Broadcast storm control on a per port basis will limit transmissions.

Local port mirroring of all ports for valid frames on both Rx and Tx using 
a user selectable mirror port or MAC address based mirroring.

SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 offers two basic methods to conÞgure 
the IP address for the device. These two methods are BOOTP and LCM.

 ¥ The SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 utilizes the BOOTP protocol to 

obtain an IP Address that may be used by this unit.

 ¥ ConÞguration via LCM of the device IP address and Default Gateway

The Operational Image is maintained by use of TFTP in conjunction with 
BOOTP.

The SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27 acts as an IP Multicast Þlter by 
snooping IGMP messages, IP Multicast UDP messages and other IPM 
routing messages.

Two forms of VLANs will be supported.

 ¥ Virtual Workgroup support. Up to 8 workgroups may be conÞgured, 

with up to 27 ports in a workgroup. These conÞgurable 
broadcast/multicast/unicast Þltering parameters for the Virtual 
Workgroup feature are only supported in 802.1D mode.
