Port Status Screen
Example 5
This example describes the interconnections between 9A686-04s installed in the same chassis.
Each 9A686-04 has seven CTM ASICs. These ASICs are, essentially, ANIMs with two ports.
Each ASIC uses the two ports for connections to two slots in the chassis. This results in a
fault-tolerant, full mesh switch fabric between all 9A686-04s. Even if one CTM ASIC fails,
ATM cells can still reach the desired slot by adding an additional switch “hop” to a second
module, before progressing to the desired slot. For example, if the CTM ASIC of the
9A686-04 in
Figure 3-1
that connects to slot 12 fails, the data can be sent via a different CTM
ASIC to slot 5, which then will send the data to slot 12. By default, all CTM ASICs use PNNI
1.0 for Signalling and all modules attached to the backplane belong to the same peer group.

PORT STATUS SCREEN
Local Management of the SmartSwitch 9500 provides access to the Port Status screen. This
screen is used to identify the physical link status, the current state of ILMI on each interface,
the type of protocol being used, the current state of that protocol stack, physical link history,
and Signalling stack history for each interface.
Figure 3-2

screen.
