5 Laboratory infrastructure and
interactions
The following chapters will describe the
planning factors
, which concern the operational pro-
cedure and possible interactions between the MR system and its surroundings.
5.1 Operational procedures
Efficiency is increased when using an MR system by including the planned operational proce-
dures. Important factors are:
▪ Avoidance of lengthy routes between magnet, test preparation and operating areas
▪ Provide visibility between operating area and magnet opening
▪ optimize door swings to allow a smooth closing
▪ Consider lighting conditions in the magnet room, operating area, and preparation area
▪ include protected storage areas for RF coils and accessories
In addition to the daily operating procedures, the services provided and service activities should
also be considered.
▪ Possibility to clean the laboratory rooms
▪ Maintenance of the MR system and access to the control electronics
▪ Exchange and upgrade of components
▪ Interactions with other maintenance work in the laboratory and building infrastructure, e.g.
servers or cooling systems.
5.2 IT structures
The MR operating console can be incorporated into a local network using DHCP or a fixed IP
address. Incorporation is not necessary to operate the MR system, but it does facilitate the pro-
cedures of:
▪ Data archiving on central servers
▪ Data exchange between the operator console and analysis consoles
If it is possible to connect externally to the Internet, procedures between operator and Bruker
BioSpin MRI Customer Support can then be made easier:
▪ Data exchange between customer and hotline
▪ remote online support through direct access to the local operator console via the hotline
(WebEx Services)
There must be telephone access to the operating room for servicing work. If no mobile tele-
phone connections are possible in the operating room, an international fixed line must be pro-
vided.
