5.3.3 Elevator removal
Type of maintenance: heavy
Authorization to perform:
LSA mechanic or A&P mechanic (Airframe and Power plant)
Tools needed:

wrench size 7/16 in

wire nippers
Remove the cover (1) from the access hole (2) (see Fig. 6-9).
Disconnect the trim tab actuator wires (3).
Remove the fiberglass cover (6) (see Fig. 5-2).
Disconnect the elevator control rod.
Disconnect piano hinge (4) (see Fig. 5-1).
Remove the elevator from the stabilizer.
Store the elevator so that its damage cannot occur.
5.3.4 Elevator assembly
Type of maintenance: heavy
Authorization to perform:
LSA mechanic or A&P mechanic (Airframe and Power plant)
Tools needed:

wrench size 7/16 in

pliers
Put the elevator in the piano hinge on the stabilizer.
Insert the trim tab actuator wires (3) (see Fig. 6-9) going from the stabilizer to the
elevator.
Insert pin in piano hinge (4) (see Fig. 5-1).
Connect elevator control rod with control lever.
Connect the trim tab actuator wires (3).
Install the fiberglass covers (6) (see Fig. 5-2).
Perform check the trim tab operation and elevator deflections (see 6.4.3.3),
possibly adjusting of elevator deflections (see 6.4.4.3).
5.3.5 Trim tab removal
Type of maintenance: heavy
Authorization to perform:
LSA mechanic or A&P mechanic (Airframe and Power plant)
Tools needed:

pliers, wire nippers

electric drill, drill bit diam. 3.2 mm (1/8 in)
Disconnect control rod end from the trim tab.
Drill out the rivets connecting the piano hinge with elevator.
Remove the trim tab with piano hinge from elevator.
